Traditional Neopolitan/Italian. For solo tenor and 12-part choir of 6 tenors & 4 basses (13 players total). Solo is a virtuosic showpiece based on the familiar Italian song Funiculi Funicula by Louis Denza. Commissioned by New York Philharmonic principaltrombonist Joseph Alessi (soloist) and the Julliard Trombone Choir. This chart is recorded on the NAXOS CD of the same title.
20th Century (1993). Composed for Ilia Nenov and the Academic Trombone Ensemble based at the Academy of Music in Sofia, Bulgaria. For 12 trombones and tuba. Or 13 trombones, as the tuba part is readily playable by bass trombone. For a fuller sound, contrabass trombone could be used. This is a large scale, single movement work that features a variety of tempi sections. Some tenor clef in the top two parts. -cdp
