Music for the Royal Fireworks, Overture to (Gamble) [211.01]

Baroque. Handel's Music for the Royal Fireworks was commissioned by King George II for fireworks in Green Park, April 27 1749 in celebration of the end of the War of the Austrian Succession. The original instrumentation was for a large wind band of over 60 musicians. Since then it has been scored for many different ensembles. Steven Gamble has scored the overture of about 8 minutes in length for advanced level brass quintet: 2 C trumpets in C (part for piccolo trumpet in A is included), horn, trombone, tuba (or bass trombone). The music is scored in the key of C, down a step from the original. -the publisher
