    Prelude No 2 (Knudsvig) [211.01]

20th Century. Second of the Three Preludes for Piano composed in 1927, here transcribed for standard brass quintet. The arranger has deleted one measure at the beginning and has added a repeat in the middle with a "stride piano" treatment. -publisher

Laid back and freely played, the beginning section of this classic Gershwin Prelude features tasteful weaving of the five parts and distributes melodic material throughout the ensemble. Second trumpet often has the lead throughout the work. Tuba alsohas a significant melodic role in the second, slightly faster section. Moderate range. Intermediate technical demands, but control and maturity are needed. A piccolo trumpet is optional on the first part. A bugle or Flugel Horn is optional on the second trumpet part. Score and parts.
