20th Century. American composer. Written for outstanding saxophonist Larry Gwozdz in 1987, the Sonata Elegiaca reflects the composer's feelings of loss on the recent departures from this life of several valued friends and companions in the art of music, including composer-pianist Brian Israel and the saxophonist Kenneth Deans. There are three movements: an "Andante sonore" in free variation form; a brief, shadowy "Presto", and a partly fugal "Allegro" in ternary form with an "Adagoi" introduction whosematerial is recalled in the Coda. Duration: 13:40 minutes. - the publisher.
