    Foundation to Flute Playing

Subtitled "An Elementary Method," this method book is geared towards the beginning flutist and includes a few pages of short music theory explanations. Exercises flow smoothly from one to the next and are intended to give students a solid foundation before taking on more advanced music. Lessons 1-38 introduce notes, articulations, scales and rhythms. Lessons 39-59 progress to an intermediate level with double and triple tonguing, trills and turns, along with exercises in intervals and arpeggios for both major and minor keys. The remainder of the book then puts these skills to use in folk songs (not included in the beginning lessons), classical melodies and etudes composed by the author, Ernest F Wagner. 120 pages. Includes fold-out fingeringand trill charts. -AP
