Progressive Studies for the High Register

These studies are designed to provide brass players with a systematic musical approach to developing the upper register. Players should progress in each study to the highest line which can be played securely and with a good sound. - the composer

Contains a preliminary study and seventeen exercises. Each exercise presents a slurred sequential pattern which fosters a free-blowing air stream. The exercise is transposed upward chromatically, gradually increasing the range. Some patterns are scalar, arpeggiated, or combinations of both. 35 pages. -pc

Keith Johnson is professor of trumpet at the University of Texas and has studies with William Scarlato, John Haynie, Haskell Sexton, Vincent Chichowicz, Armando Ghitalla, and Arnold Jacobs.
