Between 1895 and 1903 Jean Sibelius composed ten piano pieces that, following their first publication, were taken over by Breitkopf & Hartel and combined as Opus 24. This opus includes Sibelius's most popular and often-played piano pieces in the style ofnationalistic romanticism. The tuneful Romance is the ninth piece in the cycle and was composed in 1901 as a Christmas gift for one of the composer's friends. The new edition takes over the music text published in volume V/1 of the complete edition of the "Jean Sibelius Works," based in turn on a thorough comparison with the first print of 1902. -the publisher
