In his new album for piano four-hands, Mike Cornick recreates scenes in and around a quiet Devonshire village, reminiscing about his visits there as a child. Devonshire Sketches consists of five movements, all tonal, melodic and simple to play; very suitable for blossoming youngsters to perform with their teacher or another pupil. We start with a "Country Walk" leading us gently into the peaceful atmosphere of "Stoke Woods". Then it's "Harvest Time" with a happy lilting melody before we arrive, withslow, sombre reflection, "In a Country Church- yard". Finally, we celebrate in "The Village Inn" and enjoy some folksy music that makes us think of Morris dancers on the village green outside. - the publisher
