Prelude to Gurre-Lieder by Arnold Schoenberg for 8-part trombone ensemble has been arranged by Randall Malmstrom. The work, a three-part oratorio, was completed in 1911 after a long stretch in between and features an enormous orchestra. Schoenberg was heavily influenced in his early years by the late Romantic style of Wagner and Strauss. The music reflects some of that and even some Debussy in the Prelude, which is very dreamy and opaque in texture.
Instrumentation for this 6-minute arrangement is for 6 tenor and 2 bass trombones. - the publisher
