Handel's original Baroque-era orchestration of Messiah did not include trombones at all. The only brass scored were 2 trumpets. Mozart's arrangement of 1789 (published 1803) for a Classical-sized orchestra adds alto, tenor and bass trombones. The popularProut/G. Schirmer edition, published much later, also calls for three trombones. According to Austrian custom of Mozart's time, the trombones were to play ALL of the tutti choruses. Mark LaFratta has written out, edited and transposed all of these choruses into the correct clefs for trombonists to enjoy.
Trombonists.....this is your chance to be bold and insist that the trombones perform in the next Messiah. Just do it!! Is the conductor going to argue with Mozart?
Appropriate for advanced performers and includes the complete edition of all thirty-eight movements. Set of three separate part books each for alto trombone (all alto clef), tenor trombone (completely in tenor clef), and bass trombone (bass clef of course, c'mon it's not Tchaik). No score.
