Canzona in Echo Duodecimi Toni a10 (1597), Ch.180 (Bugani) [424.00]

Canzon in Echo Duodecimi Toni a 10 was published as part of Gabrieli's Sacre Symphoniae of 1597, a collection of pieces including motets, canzonas, and sonatas for various instrumental groups. Gabrieli used the layout of his musical home, the San Marco Church in Venice with its two choir lofts facing each other, to create the first spatial or antiphonal music for early brass instruments, cornetti, and sackbuts. Maestro Fabrizio Bugani has edited this almost 4-minute work for a double brass choir of 10 instruments (two brass quintets). Included are numerous substitute parts which include C trumpets, horns, and alto trombones. If one wishes a pure cylindrical choir; that can be achieved by using the alto trombones in place of the horns. This edition is appropriate for moderately advanced performers and is pitched in the key of B-flat, down a step from the original. Instrumentation is for double brass quintets of 4 trumpets, 2 horns and 4 trombones.
