19th Century. Ralph Sauer has compiled a set of Three Pieces for Horn and Piano by Modest Mussorgsky. They are delightful, relatively unknown works originally for piano, "Impromptu passionn‚" (Schumanesquely romantic) written very early on, "A Teardrop"(very sad) and "Near the Southern Shore of the Crimea" (a riotous, rhythmically passionate dance). The last two works were written towards the sad ending of his life. - the publisher
