Vizzutti, Allen Sonata No 2

Trumpet Solos w/Piano

  • Vizzutti, Allen

    Sonata No 2

Sonata No. 2 was composed without extremes of range, technique or endurance in order to enhance the trumpet repertoire for players of all ages. Set in a the standard sonata form of three movements it is a melodic piece with contemporary flair. The composer hopes that this work will be fun to perform, enjoyable to hear, and serious enough to express one's self musically. First movement in 5/4 time can be described as mono-textural, the piano part being Chopinesque and the tumpet part pure melody. The melody of movement two is very simple as is it's form of AABA. The B secion is a permutation of the second movement melody from F.J Haydn's legendary trumpet Concerto in Eb. Last movement is short and exciting. The flashy technical passages in the finale, while challenging, actually sound more difficult to perform than they are. Range from low F# below the staff to high C above (optional C two octaves above the staff).
