Opus Number Zoo - SCORE [1111-1]

20th Century: Neoclassical. Opus Number Zoo, A Children's Play for Wind Quintet (1951, rev 1970) Each player alternates narrating texts to the music of the remaining ensemble players. Texts by Rhoda Levine are in English, German and Italian and depict different experiences of a chicken, fawn, mouse and two tomcats. These texts certainly are not meant for children, as the first movement tells the sad story of the chicken: "The fox took a chicken out on the floor. Poor silly chick didn't know the score...She never noticed when the light went out..." A charming piece, revised for the Dorian Quintet and dedicated to Aaron Copland for his 70th birthday. Parts sold separately as item #23050. -AP
