Four Kuehn (Keen) Guys [4 tubas and/or bass trombones]

20th Century (1986). Four Kuehn (Keen) Guys was written for David Kuehn (pronounced "Keen") the head of the Tuba Department at the University of North Texas. Professor Kuehn asked the composer to write a challenging work for his class...and he did! As a tuba quartet, all parts run the gamut of range and difficulty. It is also playable by four bass trombones and in any combination of tubas or bass trombones thereof. The quartet is in A-B-A form beginning with a march followed by a lyrical section and concluding with a repeat of the march. It is a satisfying work to perform and to listen to. The work is about 4 minutes in length and is appropriate for advanced performers. -the publisher/cdp
