    Tosto che L'alba (Vaillancourt)

Medaeval. This fourteenth century Florentine caccia is representative of the chase, a trecento song which describes the hunt in its text and imitates it with its form by way of canon. One voice chases the other. The cries and horn calls of the hunters are brought to life as abrupt exclamations and highlighted rhytmically with hockets and syncopations. Originally for two equal voices and an instrumental tenor, this arrangement is not only a good way for trombonists to learn some medieval music but also it is great fun to play.It can also be played as a trio, omitting the fourth part. -the publisher
