    Sonatas (2) (Miller) [103.00 or 202.00]

Baroque. Daniel Speer (1636-1707), who is perhaps better known today for his Sonata for Four Trombones, was a writer of many works for instrumental ensemble. These two Sonatas, taken from Das Erbe deutscher Music, v.14, have been set and edited for modern brass quartet by Donald Miller. The preferred instrumentation is 103.00, but there is a substitute trumpet part to make the ensemble 202.00. Although the bottom part could be performed on tuba, the octave is high enough to perhaps be inappropriatefor such a substitution. The trumpets part (in C) ranges from g1 to a. The first trombone part stays above the staff most of the time, ranging from g to a. The third trombone does not requie a trigger, having a range of G to c1. -cdp
