Dedicated to Maurice Andre, this colorful concerto in three movements is a brilliant showcase for the advanced performer. First movement is quite animated and works through a variety of symmetrical and asymmetrical meters. Second movement begins slowlyand calmly and climaxes dramatically in the middle of the movement. Final movement is marked "Vivace-gai et leger" and features rapid articulated passages and a cadenza. Straight mute required. Range from low C below the staff to high C above. If you enjoy Eugene Bozza's "Caprice" and "Rustiques," this concerto has melodic and harmonic similarities notably within the first movement. -pc
