    19th century French trumpeter. If you are looking for an alternative to the Arban's Complete Conservatory Method, you should consider this substantial 288 page method by J.B. Arban's teacher, Francois Dauverne. Contains diagrams, playable harmonics and range charts, and text regarding natural trumpets and 19th century "modern" trumpets. A variety of orchestral excerpts are included by Altenburg, and a few by Handel. Extensive text (in French) regarding: embouchure, mutes, breathing, posture, expressive style, and more. Exercises included relative to: long tones, rapid tonguing, finger speed, interval exercises in solo and duet form, articulation, trills and other ornaments, rapid technical arpeggio exercises, triple and double tonguing, etc. In addition to the variety of characteristic melodic etudes, Dauverne includes several duets, trios, and quartets, many of which are quite challenging. -pc
