    Changing Meter Studies

    Intended to provide the student with practical exercises dealing with changing meters as they occur in much contemporary music. The studies are not difficult from a technical point of view; the emphasis here being on the meter changes, which, hopefully have been employed in such a way as to seem both "natural:" and inevitable. -Thomas Stevens.

    First sections deals with regular shifting meter patterns. Second section presents irregular shifting meter patterns. Variety of key signatures up to 5 sharps/flats. Stevens provides a helpful subdivision chart. Contains a variety of mixed meter and changing meter etudes incorporating 3/4, 4/4, 3/8, 5/8, 3/16, 5/16, and others. Also can be used by flute, clarinet, French horn, or other treble clef instruments.
