20th Century. French composer Jean-Michel Defaye has written 6 extended etudes, each two pages in length, which are unique, musically interesting, and cover a wide gamut of technical issues. Each etude has a subtitle which describes the focus of that exercise: intonation, rhythm, detached playing, interval studies, legato playing, and velocity studies. Included within the etudes are changing meters, asymmetrical meters, cadenzas, detailed dynamic and articulation instructions, syncopation, advancedrhythms, and more. These distinctive studies give the performer many opportunities for expressive playing while simultaneously addressing important technical concerns. 13 Pages. -pc
