  • Rameau, Jean-Philippe (Bland)

Les Fetes de Polymnie (Bland) [322.01 w/timpani]

Classical. This opera-ballet was first performed in 1745 in Paris to celebrate a victory at the Battle of Fontenoy. Musicologists mostly agree that the Ouverture is the highlight of the work. The music starts with a slow introduction, with the balance ofthe work highlighted with brilliant fanfares and scales, punctuated by the timpani. Justin Bland has arranged the music for an 8-part brass ensemble with timpani suitable for advanced performers. Instrumentation is 322.01 (3 trumpets, 2 horns, 2 trombones, tuba) with timpani. Trumpet 1 is Bb piccolo trumpet. Trumpet 2 doubles on B trumpet (optional). Both trombones are tenors. Score 7 parts. -the publisher/cdp
