    O Magnum Mysterium [443.01]

20th Century. American composer. Beautiful, rich harmonies. Stunning contrast between the soft, transparent writing and the emotional builds to powerful fortissimo tutti sections. If you enjoy the subtle richness of 20th century chorale composers suchas John Rutter, you will want to add this sophisticated work to your library. Intermediate technical demands, but a mature ensemble is required. Third trombone part is for bass trombone. Duration is approx: 5:30 minutes. Score & parts. -pc

For centuries, composers have been inspired by the beautiful O Magnum Mysterium text depicting the birth of the newborn King amongst the lowly animals and shepherds. This affirmation of God's grace to the meek and the adoration of the Blessed Virgin are celebrated in my setting through a quiet song of profound inner joy. Lauridsen's O Magnum Mysterium, commissioned by Marshall Rutter in honor of his wife Terry Knowles, has had several thousand performances throughout the world (in various orchestrations) and dozens of recordings since its 1994 premiere by the Los Angeles Master Chorale. - the composer
