    Cantares (Hartman)

Joaquin Turina (1882 - 1949) lived and studied piano and composition in Paris but his music is melodically derived from Spanish dance and song. Together with de Falla and Albeniz, Turina was part of a distinct school in Paris that used Spanish harmony's and themes in their music - just as Bartok and Kodaly used the folk music of Eastern Europe in their composition. Cantares was originally written for soprano with spanish guitar - the guitar part was later adapted by the composer to be played on the piano. Turina died, unfortunately, before he had time to arrange the soprano part for trombone, leaving this task to be completed by Scott Hartman. --the publisher
