Die Walkure - Extracts from Act II (Malmstrom) [244.01 w/timpani]
Romantic. Opera. For 244.01 brass ensemble where trumpets are in C and trombone 4 is contrabass (playable on tuba). Randall Malmstrom has arranged extracts from Richard Wagner's Die Walkure, Act II for 11-part brass ensemble and timpani. Die Walkure is the second of Wagner's epic Ring Cycle operas based loosely on Germanic heroic legend, namely Norse legendary sagas and the Nibelungenlied. The opera was first performed in 1870 and features a large orchestra including a massive brass section. The music is deep, somber, heroic, tragic, and is a great platform for the brass section. Malmstrom's arrangement is suitable for advanced performers. - the publisher/cdp
