    Romance Oubliee [Forgotten Romance] (Sauer)

Romantic. Liszt composed the Romance Oubliee for piano around 1844. It was then forgotten until he heard violist Hermann Ritter at the first performance of Wagner's Der Ring des Nibelungen at Bayreuth. Liszt fashioned for Ritter a transcription ofthe work for viola and piano as well as ones for the piano, violin and violoncello. In this short work, the listener hears the agonies of a troubled soul, beginning with a rhapsodic passage, continuing with a cadenza-like section, then a section with arpeggiated figures, finally settling into a peaceful ending. This 4-minute work is appropriate for advanced performers. -the publisher
