What Did You Do Today At Jeffey's House?

20th Century (1988). Movements entitled: First we had a parade; After lunch Jeffey's mom made us take a nap; Then we did a carnival with a haunted house and dancing bears. This work was written for Tom Bacon who was at the time putting together an albumof horn music for children. Peter Schickele notes:

Although the various activities alluded to in the movement titles are based on general rather than specific memories, the choice of a name was not haphazard; Jeff Pilat was one of my very best friends when I was eight to eleven years old.

Colorful, entertaining work with descriptive tempo and style markings such as "Stately, but Sassy," "Fast and Rolling," "Mysterioso." Some asymmetrical meters, syncopated rhythms, some range challenges up to high C above the staff, D one octave below the staff, mute required in the second movement. -pc
