Renaissance. Biber's Battalia a 10 from 1673 is based on his work for string orchestra, most likely composed for a festivity to celebrate Carnival. The work depicts warfare and army life. It is dedicated to the mythical god 'Bacchus,' who is in full formin the drunken dissonant confusion of the second movement and 'Mars' the God of War. Adam Woolf has arranged this 7-minute work for 10-part brass ensemble of advanced performers. Instrumentation is for 4 trumpets (1st trumpet optional piccolo), 1 horn, 4 trombones (TTTB), tuba (Philip Jones Ensemble). -the publisher
