Danse Infernale, from Firebird (Eckert) [444.22 & percussion]

20th Century. Steven Eckert has brilliantly arranged Igor Stravinsky's "Danse Infernale from the Firebird Ballet" for brass choir and percussion. The "Danse Infernale," also known as the "Infernal Dance of King Kastchei," is one of the great iconic worksof the entire 20th Century. The work, composed in 1910 and premiered that same year in Paris for Sergei Diaghilev's Ballet Russes Company, burst young Stravinsky onto the world stage and marked the moment when the post-Romantic style of composition was becoming predominant.

The Danse Infernale rushes headlong into a frenetic and wild dance with feathers flying onstage and the orchestra leaping forward at a maddening pace, hardly letting up till the last note.

The instrumentation is for 4 trumpets (including piccolo) 4 horns, 4 trombones, 2 euphoniums, 2 tubas, timpani, and large percussion section including xylophone, glockenspiel, and marimba. - the publisher
