20th Century. Mexican. For standard 211.01 brass quintet (2 trumpets, horn, trombone, tuba). Cielito Lindo is a popular traditional song of Mexico possibly written by Quirino Mendoza y Cortes (1859-1957). The song's title literally means "beautiful heaven" or "heavenly one." Written in 3/4 time, but to be played in "one." This arrangement gives the well-known romantic melody to the first trumpet. French horn is featured in the B section. Simple, straight-forward accompaniment. -pc
