    Los Cinco Mosqueteros [211.01]

20th Century (1999). Trumpets in C. Optional piccolo trumpet for trumpet 1. Trombone plays in tenor clef frequently. Translation is "The Five Musketeers." Movements entitled; Molto Energico; Adagio; Allegretto; Presto. If you are looking for a challenging, unique work with plenty of energy and varying moods/styles, this work could be the perfect choice. The Adagio movement, requires the trumpets to remove their second valve slides and use alternate fingerings. Theatrical events occur such as in the Fourth movement "Presto" where an outlandish French horn solo spirals out of control and causes the ensemble to look disapprovingly at the horn player. The horn player feels ashamed and begins to play a simple (oom) pa-pa-pa horn line to return the ensemble to a more controlled place. The piece builds to a frenzy with four of the performers playing an active aleatoric section which suddenly ends, and the leads into a final aggressive statement. Duration is approx 10:15 minutes.
