Dukas, Paul (Tempest) Sorcerer's Apprentice, The

12-Part Brass Choirs w/Organ

  • Dukas, Paul (Tempest)

    Sorcerer's Apprentice, The (Tempest) [523.11 w/percussion]

Romantic. For piccolo trumpet, 4 trumpets (4th doubles flugelhorn), 2 horns, 3 trombones (TTB), euphonium, tuba, timpani & percussion.

The Sorcerer's Apprentice by French composer Paul Dukas was written in 1897 and was based on Goethe's poem of the same name. The symphonic poem format was becoming very popular at the time with other great composers, with this work following the storyline of the poem rather closely.

A popular concert piece in its own right, this work rocketed to stardom when it was included as one of the eight animated segments in the Disney movie Fantasia conducted by Leopold Stokowski.

Jim Tempest has arranged this seven minute, slightly abridged version for 12-part brass ensemble with timpani & percussion (14 players total). For advanced players. -the publisher/cdp
