Martinu, Bohuslav Sonatine

Trumpet Solos w/Piano

  • Martinu, Bohuslav

    Sonatine

20th Century (1956). Czech composer Bohuslav Marintu wrote this Sonatine while he was in America. Written as one continuous movement, this work features lively articulated melodies, flutter tonguing during straight mute passages, dramatic sustained solo playing over top of an intense sixteenth-note motor rhythm in the piano, and closes with powerful chords and stately melodic writing in the trumpet. Range is moderate for an advanced solo: from C# below the staff to high B above towards the end of the work (Bb trumpet part). Bb & C solo parts included. -pc

His music shows the influence of Stravinsky, jazz and of Debussy whom he admired above all others. -the publisher
