The studies in this collection were written for the advanced trombonist. In contemporary repertoire the orchestral trombone player must read alto, tenor and bass clefs fluently and also have the ability to go easily from clef to clef. Each of the studies contains passages in the three clefs together with challenging rhythmic figures set in shifting meters. All registers of the instrument are explored with varying tongue and phrase articulations using several major and minor tonalities. Although the studies are technically demanding and require great endurance, it is the hope of the writer that they will provide suitable material for advancement as well as offering recital music for solo performance. - the composer.
