Impressions of Indiana paints a scenic picture of the state of Indiana. Beginning with "The Mighty Wabash," the first movement creates a majestic and dignified overview of the Wabash River as it travels 475 miles throughout the state. The second movementlooks back almost 1000 years to a Native American town in "Mists on the Mounds," a lyrical and delicate piece. The final movement, "Speedway Sensation," is a fast piece that pays tribute to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and the Indianapolis 500. The relentless pace of the race is represented by broken octaves in a walking bass line.
