Aase's Death, from Peer Gynt (Hayes/Harmantas)

Romantic. Grieg's incidental music to Henrik Ibsen's play became his most popular composition, with both great works premiering in 1876. Aase's Death is an elegy depicting the death of Peer Gynt's mother dying alone on a mountain. It is simple and powerful. Ed Hayes and Frank Harmantas have scored this work for 5-part trombone ensemble. This 4-minute work is playable by moderately advanced performers except for the top part which goes up to a couple high D's and needs some endurance. -the publisher
