    20th Century. Spartacus is a ballet by Khachaturian written in 1954 and is one of the composer's best known works. The Adagio appears in Act II when the two lovers Spartacus and Phrygia celebrate their escape from slavery. Angus Armstrong's arrangement of this work is for 11-part brass ensemble with timpani and percussion. For 4 trumpets (trumpet 1 is piccolo, trumpet 4 doubles flugelhorn), 2 horns, 3 trombone, euphonium, tuba, timpani & percussion. The music has been performed by the Capital Brass of Ottawa Canada and is featured on their album "From Russia With Brass." -the publisher
