Molter, Johan Melchior (Block) Concerto in D, MWV.IV, no 10

Trumpet Duets w/Piano

  • Molter, Johan Melchior (Block)

Concerto in D, MWV.IV, no 10 (Block) [Bb & D duet parts included]

Baroque. German composer. This concerto is one of five by Molter for two trumpets in the possession of the Badische Landesbibliothek, Karlsruhe, West Germany. First movement is an Allegro which begins with distinctive sixteenth note octave jumps in the piano part and features lively interplay between the trumpets and piano. Trumpet parts are ornamented, tuneful, and technically challenging. Second movement is an elaborate Andante for piano solo. Final movement is a brisk Allegro in 6/8 in which the trumpets play primarily in unison rhythm a third apart. Given the range of the upper parts, this edition is well-suited for trumpets in D, or Eb trumpets transposing the D part. -pc
