  • Charpentier, Marc-Antoine (Hogg)

    Te Deum (Hogg) [211.01]

Baroque. Marc-Antoine Charpentier was a French composer active in the late 1600's. He was a contemporary (though not a friend) of Lully. The Te Deum is perhaps his most well known work to brass players, and the Prelude is popular for its grand fanfare-like character. In addition to standard concert use, this work is appropriate for weddings, graduations and other ceremonial occasions.

This transcription is in D major. Technically achievable for intermediate players though the last half of this piece features the first trumpet playing technical sixteenth-note passages above the staff. This arrangement incorporates straight eighth-note rhythms throughout rather than dotted-eighth/sixteenth found in other editions. Duration is approx 1:30 minutes. -pc
