Concerto 1945 [Gr.7-virtuosic] [treble clef]
This 21st Century concerto was written for Roger Webster of the Black Dyke Band. As it's title implies, this work aims to capture the spirit of optimistic vision which affected the British psyche at the end of the Second World War. The outer movements are energetic and brisk requiring virtuosic playing in an heroic style. The center movement is a cadenza to be played off-stage where the soloist is surrounded and supported by an additional group of fanfare players. Straight mute and "tin" mute required. Extensive technical skills, flutter tonguing, alternate fingering passages. Range from low F# below the staff to high D above. pc

Concerto [Gr.7-virtuosic]
This is the same John Williams who is well known for his movies scores including Star Wars, E.T. and the new Olympic Theme. For trumpet in C (Bb part also included). Concerto for Trumpet and Orchestra is an extensive work making full use of the trumpet'scomplete range. The first movement cadenza in particular demands extensive playing in the low register, but moves quickly up to high C# and D at the cadenza's climax. Wide leaps are frequent especially in the slurred passages of the slow middle movement. Final movement moves at an agile pace amongst continually changing meters which add to its unpredictability. The soloist plays frequently between high C# and E above the staff, and must rapidly articulate in this register. An exciting, demanding work for the true virtuoso!

First place prize winner in the 2001 ITG Composition Competition. Title for this piece came from the varied personalities that mutes allow the trumpet to explore. This three movement work is an exploration of three very different trumpet "personas." The piano is to be slightly "prepared" by placing an eraser in the strings of the piano. Plunger and harmon mutes required, glissandos, half valve technique, flutter tonguing, growling, and other contemporary techniques are required. Full range of the trumpet explored.

Dedicated to Hermann Gyger, Concertino is written for trumpet in C in one coninuous movement. Unique in its attention to the low register of the trumpet in extended passages, this work primarily requires slurred and legato articulations. Quick tempo ofthe allegro works through frequent metrical changes. Lento begins in 5/4, 3/4 then moves to an extended lyrical secion in 7/8. Presto again works through mid and low registers, but finishes with a dramatic flourish ascending from low A to high D above the staff (optional A on first ledger line).
