Qty. Bach, JCE Quartet in Eb, op 8/3 (Enzel) [SATB] [advanced] Johann Christian Bach was the youngest of Johann Sebastian Bach's sons. He composed in the galant aesthetic, a style incorporating balanced phrases, emphasis on melody and accompaniment, without too much contrapuntal complexity. The galant movement was against the intricate lines of Baroque music, and instead places importance on fluid melodies in periodic phrases. Item: 69837 $19.95 SAXOPHONE QUARTET
Qty. Cimiotti Yo! [SATTB or AATTB] [advanced] This piece about joy, funk and groove is fun to play. It was written in 1994, inspired by the music of Bob Mintzer and it features the tenor saxophone (improvised solo and written counterpoint lines). The original version for five saxophones is actually a piece for quartet and soloist. In the four-saxophone version, the tenor solo part is integrated in the quartet and the soloist plays in the ensemble. The whole piece is based on clear rhythmic and melodic motives, which develop and flow from one part into the other, thus creating a funky groove. There is a good recording of YO! by the Cologne Saxophone Quintet on their CD YO! - featuring Bob Mintzer (Neuklang) --the publisher The quartet version is SATB or AATB and includes only one tenor saxophone, which is a combination of the tenor 1 and tenor 2 from the quintet version. All parts included for quartet or quintet performance. Duration: approx. 4:30 min.

The arrangement is written in a medium swing tempo and can be mastered - without setting a high standard in view of technical virtuosity - by any truly committed saxophone quartet. Score & parts.

The piece consists of two themes - at times in unison, then in several voices - and two interludes providing a musical setting for the themes. Rhythmical accuracy is a special qualification every musician has to fulfill to perform this composition, though the rhythms are not complex. The complete piece is played fast and as hot as possible.
