Qty. Fink Melodic Technic, Based on Slama's 66 Etudes This book is for all intents and purposes the SLAMA 66 Etudes (a.k.a. 66 Studies). It contains the same 66 etudes in the same order in the same keys in the safe clefs, and nothing additional. They differ only in that the confusing double bass fingeringspresent in the Carl Fischer edition have been removed, making it a true trombone edition. Slama was a trombonist by trade, and these etudes represent some of his pedagogical thinking on the instrument. They are technical in nature, with focus primarily on arpeggiation, diatonic scalar passages, sequential motives and leaps of the octave. Originally published in an edition for trombone/bassoon in 1836. The etudes were also included in a separate book by his pen for double bass, and as a result other editions (not this one) contain fingerings for double bass which can be somewhat distracting. These studies are the same as the SLAMA "Etudes" and SLAMA "Studies" books published by other publishers. Spiral bound. -cdp

This book is progressive, starting with simple quarter-half figures and progressing to 16th note passages at the end. Dotted 8 16th figures and triplets are also presented in a repetitive fashion to hone skill in these rhythms. The keys stay on the flat side of the circle, and the clefs are bass througout. The range never exceeds F above the staff, or passes below F below the staff. This is a great first "technique" book to use for someone moving out of a beginning method and before entering Kopprasch, Schlossberg or even Arbans. 45 pages. -cdp

Qty. Hering Recreational Studies (50) Collection of 50 simpler etudes that with the exception of the final two, stay in the realm of half, quarter & eighth notes. Each etude is about a 1/2 to 3/4 page long, appropriate for the younger player. Keys are on the flat side of the circle and the clef is of course bass throughout. Range is modest, staying in the staff except to range up to C, D sometimes Eb and only on the last page, F (two ledgers above, not screech F). This book is a good choice for a player still in a standard band method or just out.
