Trombone Solos w/Piano

  • Ravel, Maurice (Cherry)

Kaddisch, from Deux Melodies Hebraiques (Cherry) [bass clef]

20th Century. Ravel composed this work for voice with piano accompaniment in 1914 just before he enlisted for service in World War I. It was commissioned by Alvina Alvi, a soprano with the St. Petersburg Opera, who performed it for the first time the same year with Ravel at the piano. The composer later orchestrated the music in 1919. This expressive music is based on the mourner's prayer from the Jewish daily service. It is about 5-minutes in length, modest in range (high G), in bass clef and appropriate for advanced performers. -the publisher
