  • Grainger, Percy (Schmidt)

Irish Tune from County Derry [Londonderry Air / Danny Boy] (Schmidt) [1111-1]

Traditional. Old Irish tune, also known as the Londonderry Air, originating from County Londonderry in Ireland. The popular song Danny Boy uses this melody with a more recent set of lyrics.

This melody is commonly though incorrectly attributed to Australian composer Percy Grainger, and is often published under his name as it is here. Grainger's concert band setting of this melody is famous among wind and brass players and has inspired many arrangements for other ensembles. In fact, the tune is ancient and its composer is unknown. -cdp

Horn plays solo in first verse, then it switches to flute. Many dynamics written in to aid the developing ensemble. Clarinet in Bb. horn in F. Score & parts. -AP
