Irish Tune from County Derry (Schmidt) [OOOEB double reed quintet]

Traditional. Old Irish tune, also known as the Londonderry Air, originating from County Londonderry in Ireland. The popular song Danny Boy uses this melody with a more recent set of lyrics.

The tune is here incorrectly attributed to Australian composer Percy Grainger, whose concert band setting of this melody is famous among wind and brass players. In fact, the tune is ancient and its composer is unknown.

For double reed quintet of 3 oboes, english horn & bassoon. -cdp
