Caldara, Antonio (Sanders/Knipschild) Sonata in C

Trumpet Quartets w/Percussion

  • Caldara, Antonio (Sanders/Knipschild)

    Sonata in C (Sanders/Knipschild) [w/timpani & piano]

Baroque. Popular Italian opera and oratorio composer Antonio Caldara created this sonata originally as an overture for the opera Cajo Fabbricio. The first section is a delightful allegro with descending sixteenth note sequences in the piano and lively melodies in the first and second trumpets. Lower trumpet parts and timpani are have a supportive accompanimental role and could be well-achieved by intermediate players. The second and final movement is a brief, ornamented Andante for solo piano. Trumpet parts in Bb, C or D. Given the range of the upper parts, this edition is well-suited for trumpets in D, or Eb trumpets transposing the D part. Duration is approximately 2:15 minutes. -pc
