  • Charpentier, Marc-Antoine (Allen)

Prelude, from Te Deum (Allen) [211.01]

Baroque. Marc-Antoine Charpentier was a French composer active in the late 1600's. He was a contemporary (though not a friend) of Lully. The Te Deum is perhaps his most well known work to brass players, and the Prelude is popular for its grand fanfare-like character. In addition to standard concert use, this work is appropriate for weddings, graduations and other ceremonial occasions. Part of the Boulder Brass series.

This transcription is in C major. Technically achievable for intermediate players. This arrangement incorporates dotted-eighth/sixteenth note rhythms throughout rather than straight eighth-notes found in other editions. Melody is often ornamented withtrills in the trumpet and French horn parts. Duration is approx 1:30 minutes. -pc
