Frank, Steven (Hafner) Variations on Barnacle Bill the Sailor

Bass Trombone Solos w/Concert Band

  • Frank, Steven (Hafner)

Variations on Barnacle Bill the Sailor (Hafner) [solo bass tbn or tuba feature]

20th Century (1929, arranged 1995). Finally the bass trombonist (or tubist) has an "Arthur Pryor-style" showpiece. This clever theme and variations on a theme by Carson Robison and Frank Luther weaves several sea songs into a virtuosic and extremely demanding solo. Although the range covers more than four octaves, there are opportunities for octave displacement, in order to make the piece playable by players of varying abilities. Solo part & score included. Re-engraved in 2016 to enhance readability. -cdp
