Baroque. Marc-Antoine Charpentier was a French composer active in the late 1600's. He was a contemporary (though not a friend) of Lully. The Te Deum is perhaps his most well known work to brass players, and the Prelude is popular for its grand fanfarish character. In addition to standard concert use, this work is appropriate for weddings, graduations and other ceremonial occasions. Trumpets in C.

Romantic. Translated as "Processional Entry," (translated title is actually "Solemn Entry of the Knights of the Order of Saint John"). This work is a slow, solemn march that builds to a powerful climax. Originally for 25-part large brass choir with timpani and then later transcribed by Max Reger for organ solo. This arrangement for brass quintet, organ & timpani is derived from both the original and the Reger. -cdp
