Galamian: Scale System, v.1
I arrived at the violin version of this scale system this past year, at the suggestion of a teacher, who had told me that the way to remain fresh as a player is to force one's mind to grasp new ideas and patterns. I had been using the Flesch Scale System, and have come to the Galamian, and enjoy my work with it. The philosophy behind it is to create new patterns of fingering and bowing that the mind must deal with. I find the "Studies in One Position" (section V) particularly useful, as it allows you to practice playing in a key, (rather than simply a scale) in each position. Item 28983.
